A television host in the UK has made an embarrassing mistake when he asked Bee Gees star Robin Gibb if his brother Maurice was watching the program, even though his twin had died seven years ago.

Sky News host Stephen Dixon made the gaffe during an interview with Gibb about Maurice's alleged one night stand with British actress Barbara Windsor.

The pair were discussing a newspaper that had published a picture of a clean-shaven Maurice to go with their story about Windsor's admission of the 1960s dalliance when Dixon asked if Maurice was "watching tonight".

Robin, 60, remained calm and informed Dixon Maurice had died.

"He's not with us, he's gone. He died in 2003," Gibb said.

Dixon tried to cover up his mistake by saying he was getting his Bee Gees "mixed up".

"Well there's three brothers you see, and people often get confused," Robin said.
